Joomla!

Joomla! is a content management system that's purpose is for publishing chosen content on the world wide web. The Joomla! system includes various features such as page caching which improves performance, RSS feeders, printable pages, news flashes, polls, blog's, internal website searching, internationalization of languages.

Joomla! is written in PHP a programming language and uses the MySQL database by default. The Joomla! package consists of many parts, which are all built to allow extensions and integrations to be produced easily.

Some of these for example are Plugins, which are background extensions that
extend Joomla! with new functions. Alongside Plugins, other extensions are available. Components for example allow webmasters to perform tasks such as build a community by expanding user's features, to backup a website, to translate content and to create URL's that are friendly to all search engines.

Modules perform tasks such as displaying calendars and allowing custom code like Google AdSense etc. to be inserted within the base of the Joomla! Joomla! allows administrators to set their global configuration parameters that affect all articles.

All of the pages then conform to these parameters by default, however a page can have its own settings for each parameter. For example, you can choose to show an article's author, to hide the author, or simply go with the global "show author" parameters.

RSS Feeds

RSS (Really Simple Syndication) is a family of Web feed formats used to publish frequently updated content including, but not limited to, blog entries, news headlines, and podcasts. An RSS document (which is called a "feed" or "web feed" or "channel") contains either a summary of content from an associated web site or the full text. RSS makes it possible for people to keep up with their favorite web sites in an automated manner that can be piped into special programs or filtered displays.

RSS content can be read using software called an "RSS reader", "feed reader" or an "aggregator". The user subscribes to a feed by entering the feed's link into the reader or by clicking an RSS icon RSS in a browser that initiates the subscription process. The reader checks the user's subscribed feeds regularly for new content, downloading any updates that it finds.
